New Employer Services - Helping Injured Workers Get Back to Work
New Employer Services (“NES”) are occupational rehabilitation services that are designed to help a worker find work with a new employer when they are unable to return to work with their pre-injury employer. The aim is to help the worker get back to work with a new employer as safely and quickly as possible.

These services include:
• Identifying the skills the worker has that could be used in a new role.
• Assisting with job seeking.
• Helping the worker prepare for interviews.
NES can only be provided by occupational rehabilitation providers who have been approved by WorkSafe. They are independent of WorkSafe.

A WorkSafe Agent makes the decision as to whether a worker would benefit from NES based on their individual circumstances. They will also determine which kind of NES would be most appropriate. Information provided by the worker and their doctor or healthcare provider assists with this process.

The occupational rehabilitation provider contacts the worker to make an appointment. The provider undertakes an initial assessment at one of their offices to establish the types of work and tasks that the worker can do. They also seek advice from the worker’s doctor about their current work capacity. The provider completes a report based on this assessment.

If the worker’s assessment indicates they would benefit from NES, the provider will assist the worker to pursue the suitable employment options identified. If training is offered then they will help the worker with this as well.

The worker may take a support person such as a family member, friend or colleague with them to any assessment or appointment. NES are provided as a part of a worker’s WorkSafe injury claim. The occupational rehabilitation provider sends all reports to the worker, their WorkSafe Agent and their doctor.

If a worker has any issues or concerns about getting back to work, they should raise these with their occupational rehabilitation provider or speak to their WorkSafe Agent if they do not feel comfortable raising these issues with their provider.
